Nestled around a secluded cove on the Sangilo peninsula, our Sanctuary provides an idyllic escape right on the edge of the lake in Northern Malawi. After opening in December 2004 Sangilo Sanctuary has developed a fantastic reputation thanks to our truly delicious food, our friendly beachside bar and the stunning setting in which we’re located. You can relax in perfect peace on our enchanting secret beach, with its unique rock “caves” and crystal clear waters.
All of our rooms offer guests plenty of comfort and stunning views of the lake. They also feature wonderful hand carved woodwork, from the beautiful ornate bed frames to stunning tables and chairs. We also have a large family cottage available that comfortably sleeps five, and for those of you travelling on a budget we have affordable camping.
During your stay you can enjoy an ice cold beer listening to the waves lapping against the shore of our private beach or why not wake up early and watch the sunrise bathe the entire lake in beautiful shades of orange? There are also plenty of other activities to keep you busy, from canoeing and snorkelling to birdwatching, hiking and more. Take a look at our activities page to see what else is on offer.
We are proud, here at Sangilo, that our Sanctuary is run on eco-friendly principles. Power is provided by solar panels and inverters providing lights, music and 240v sockets for our guests' needs. "Air conditioning" is provided by careful planning of buildings and windows to make the most of lake breezes. We also have cell phone coverage should you really feel the need to communicate with the outside world! We’re committed to making your stay as enjoyable and relaxing as possible at a price that won't strain your budget.
The peaceful and idyllic private beach here at Sangilo Sanctuary is the perfect place to relax and unwind. Sit at the water’s edge looking over towards the Livingstonia Mountain Range in Tanzania or go for a swim watching the colourful fish as you go.
Enjoy a drink at our well stocked gorgeous beachside bar. Filled to the brim with wonderfully hand carved furniture, including the amazing bar itself, there’s no better place to enjoy the afternoon turn to evening.
Our magnificent food is made by our wonderfully talented chefs using locally sourced ingredients as well as plenty of fresh herbs and vegetables from our very own garden, our breakfasts are famous!. It’s so good you’ll want to come back for more next time you’re in Malawi!
Cool off in our plunge pool at the side of the bar. It’s a great way place to chill out when that afternoon sun gets too much for you. You can enjoy the in-built jacuzzi whilst looking out over the lake.
MOTORBIKE TOURS ACCEPTED!
Mark, the owner here at Sangilo is a big motorbiker and is a well trained mechanic. Therefore we're happy to accommodate Motorbikes & Motorbike tours, and with our onsite workshop, and guided rides, you won't find a better place in Malawi to relax after a day's ride.
